Internet banking 'popular'

Internet banking is set to become increasingly popular among savers in the coming years, Nationwide claims.

Celebrating its tenth year of offering an internet service, the group's research finds that 37 per cent of adults now use an online banking facility.

Convenience is cited as one of the major contributing factors to the popularity of online banking facilities, with over half of consumers identifying it as an attractive feature.

Ease and speed of use were also highlighted as positives, with one-in-ten respondents also saying they could not always get to their branch.

Mik Hodson, divisional director at Nationwide, said: "Internet banking has continued to be developed and enhanced over the last ten years and there is no doubt that it will attract more and more users."

Documenting the improvements in such services over the past ten years, he said it would be "interesting to see the advances that technology will bring over the next ten years".
