Vigilance over travel insurance policies 'crucial'

Holidaymakers are being advised to check the details of their travel insurance packages before jetting off this summer.

The move follows research carried out by HSBC indicating that over a quarter of Britons do not have an adequate understanding of what their policy entails.

Over half of respondents who took part in a survey carried out by the group also do not know what is excluded and included on their cover.

Martin Oliver, head of current accounts at HSBC, said that almost a fifth of consumers pick up their travel insurance as a benefit from their current account or credit card.

"Few people would dream of taking their family on a holiday abroad without travel insurance, but many are potentially leaving themselves and their loved ones exposed by not ensuring that they are adequately covered by the policy they have," he said.

The HSBC Bank Account Plus offers comprehensive worldwide family travel insurance and includes a number of beneficial features.

The HSBC travel insurance is designed for those people looking to travel abroad more than once a year.
