Britain's neighbours 'damaging'properties through home projects

Britain's neighbours are causing £172 of damage on average to other properties in their vicinity through their own home projects, new research from Abbey shows.

A report carried out by the group shows that some 543,000 properties experience damage due to neighbours carrying out work on their property, causing in excess of £93 million in the process.

Londoners are most likely to be affected by the experience while people in Wales are least likely to suffer at the hands of their neighbours the survey shows.

Prasad Shastri, head of insurance marketing at Abbey, said that despite the majority of such incidents which take place being acccidental, "there are misconceptions about whose insurance is to be used for it".

He added: "It is always the policy holder of the damaged home that will need to submit a claim."

Abbey is encouraging homeowners to check the details of their insurance policy carefully when making a purchases.

In terms of Abbey insurance, the group is lauding its Peace of Mind package, which has been given a five-star rating by Defaqto for the second year running.
