Alliance & Leicester 'encourages' mobile phone banking

Young consumers who register for Alliance & Leicester's mobile technology service before the end of June are set to receive a £10 credit to their current account.

Mobile phone banking appears to be particularly attractive to young savers, with over half willing to use it to check the balance on their current account, according to research carried out by Alliance & Leicester.

Some 44 per cent of young savers also said they were willing to use their handset to check they have enough money to make a purchase, while over a third were willing to check mini-statements on their phones.

Mobile banking technology is available on Alliance & Leicester's Premier 21 current account, which has a competitive credit rating of ten per cent.

Helen Palmer, current accounts manager at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Mobile phones have fast become a central tool in everyone's day-to-day lives and being able to use them for extended services like managing your finances will be extremely convenient for very many people."

"Although the technology is still relatively new, it's great to see young people embracing it to keep a check of their finances and manage their money more effectively," she added.
