Online banking popularity 'growing'

Online banking is set to become more common across all age groups, the e-marketing manager for HSBC has said.

Nick Staib believes that online banking services are set to become far more personalised in the coming years.

Such services will comprise not just appropriate products and services but also in terms of tone and style of language to whoever is logged on to the service.

"Such services, speaking directly to the needs of the customer, will be significantly more compelling," he said.

Mr Staib also said that older people will increasingly resort to appreciating the benefits of online banking.

A recent survey carried out by UK payments association Apacs indicates that over half of Britons currently use internet banking.

Over half of Britons who currently use such services are aged between 25-34, compared to just 15 per cent of people aged 65 and over.

HSBC also offers a wide range of other financial services, including commercial banking, corporate, investment banking and markets, private banking and other activities.
