Take action to curb anti-social behaviour

Zurich insurance is calling for Britons to remain proactive in helping to curb anti-social behaviour in British communities.

The call follows the publishing of a study compiled by the group which shows that more than 30 million people have experienced anti-social behaviour, costing the country some £1 billion in repairs since 2002.

Zurich's study shows that damage to property is the most commonly experienced problem, with graffiti accounting for almost a fifth of incidents.

Approximately one in ten respondents cited vandalism to doors or front walls and abandoned cars as the main problem.

Martin Hall, head of personal lines underwriting at Zurich Insurance, said: "To help minimise the impact of anti-social behaviour, we believe there are some simple changes that homeowners can make to reduce the chances of falling victim to vandals."

Installing an effective home and car alarm system might be a good idea as well as making sure garden gates and shed doors are securely locked.

"Another simple but effective security measure is getting to know your neighbours. As neighbourhoods change, it's always good to see residents looking out for each other," Mr Hall said.
