The group said that Lloyds TSB's growing share of the mortgage market as well as its maintaining of good asset quality compared to its competitors had contributed to its win.
Clive Horwood, Euromoney editor, said that the firms who "stood out from the crowd were those that exhibited the ability to innovate, react at speed and make best use of the inherent strengths of their organisation".
Truett Tate, group executive director of wholesale and international banking at Lloyds, said that the award indicated that the group's strategy was working and that the "market is noticing".
"We've always had a strong history as a market-leading retail bank but our presence in the wholesale sector was more that of a 'sleeping giant'. It's fair to say that the giant is well and truly awake!"
