According to the provider, two-thirds of people in the UK (67 per cent) do not intend to buy anything for their garden this season.
Only ten per cent of people anticipate buying garden furniture, with not many more (11 per cent) planning to buy a barbecue.
Even if the rain means people are not using their garden equipment this summer, Legal and General recommends they check how much it is are worth to ensure insurance cover is adequate.
"Checking you're not underinsured could mean you don't then suffer a financial loss in the event of a theft from your garden and it is only the rain that stops play," said Ruth Wilkins, head of communications at the company's general insurance business.
Another recent survey by Legal & General found that men have less awareness of the causes of premature death than women.
