Legal & General critical illness insurance says: be honest

Legal & General has reminded customers of its critical illness insurance product to be honest when making a claim.

The advice comes after the provider revealed that 12.2 per cent of claims that it declined last year were for non-disclosure.

Joe Wiggins, protection and housing PR manager at Legal & General, said that the company gives its customers enough information about their policy for them to give the correct information when they submit their claim.

"We believe that our application forms give people every opportunity to fully disclose their history and they contain clear, unequivocal warnings on the potential impact of non-disclosure," he argued.

Mr Wiggins claimed that other reasons why the firm might reject someone include situations where the policyholder has not met the conditions of the cover.

More than £92 million was paid out on critical illness claims by Legal & General in 2006.
