RAC: Postcode affects home more so than car insurance

While postcodes may affect the cost of car insurance premiums, they are more likely to impact upon a person's home insurance, the RAC has claimed.

Liz Kennett, a spokeswoman for the RAC, said that a person's postcode will influence the cost of car insurance, as the premiums are assessed by looking at where the car is parked at night.

However, the extent to which this is true is not as far-reaching as it is with home insurance, she claimed.

"Because cars they tend to go with us wherever we go - [postcodes have] less of an impact on car insurance than home insurance," said Ms Kennett.

"Home insurance is very much based on your postcode and where you live."

Figures released last year by the Motor Insurers' Bureau revealed that 36,000 uninsured claims were made over the year - a decrease of 4.7 per cent on 2005.
