Post Office breakdown cover 'offered on all policies'

The Post Office has revealed that female drivers are more willing than ever to maintain their vehicle, but added that even the most cautious should ensure they have breakdown cover.

New figures from the insurer reveal that 57 per cent of women check their cars' oil themselves, while 21 per cent would be willing to change a flat tyre.

Furthermore, 50 per cent check tyre pressure before heading off on a journey and 44 per cent refill their anti-freeze in winter, seemingly exposing the myth that women would rather call in the experts in automotive matters.

"But even with good maintenance, cars can and do break down so we advise all of our customers - male and female - to ensure they have adequate breakdown cover," said Phil Ashkuri, head of insurance with the UK's fastest-growing car insurance provider.

"The Post Office offers additional breakdown cover with every policy it sells to safeguard drivers from those unexpected faults they cannot fix themselves."

Last month, the Post Office revealed to holidaying motorists that Switzerland provides the cheapest petrol in Europe at 75p per litre.
