LV= Car Insurance warns boy racers: It's a turn-off

Aspiring Tom Sellecks be warned: that flashy Ferrari does not impress women.

That at least is according to car insurance provider LV=, which has been polling men and women on what car they think would be most impressive on a first date.

The Ferrari, of which the 308 GTS model was favoured by Magnum PI, was the most popular car among men. However, while 21 per cent of men believe that sports cars are the quickest way to a first date's heart, only nine per cent of women agree.

Martin Milliner at LV= said: "Dating experts warn that women look for signs of stability rather than risk-taking from a partner, so even those who don't have a flashy sports car should keep in mind that safe driving is likely to make a stronger first impression than boy-racing."

The research comes after car insurance provider Admiral advised young drivers last week to resist the urge to buy a fast car after they have passed their test.
