Halifax Home Insurance warns of picnic perils

With the sun finally shining over much of the UK, many people might be packing their picnic hampers. However, Halifax Home Insurance has sounded a note of caution.

According to the provider, 11 million adults in the UK have fallen victim to a robbery in an open place in the past five years.

Mobile phones, wallets, cameras and mp3 players are the most stolen items, with 60 poer cent of victims leaving the items unattended.

"Our research shows that thieves are opportunistic and are more likely to ruin your day if you leave your possessions unguarded," warned Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance.

"It's not just the cost of replacing a hamper – it's all the other accessories that we take with us."

Last week, Sainsbury's Home Insurance has claimed to be among the four per cent of insurers that cover against damage done in the summer holidays.
