Three-quarters of Brits fear foreign roads, says Cornhill Direct

More than 75 per cent of Britons feel apprehensive about driving in other countries, according to Cornhill Direct.

Fears such as driving on the wrong side of the road and not understanding road signs ranked among the biggest fears in a survey of 4,000 drivers.

However, 30 per cent of respondents claim that they do no preparation before heading off into the unknown and five per cent admit they have been involved in accidents.

Cornhill Direct said that unready motorists are "just asking for trouble".

"Motorists intending to drive their car abroad should talk to their insurer to make sure they are covered for every eventuality including accident recovery as well as breakdown rescue," he added.

This week, the RAC advised Brits intending to drive on holiday that having cover for their car can be as valuable a move as taking out travel insurance.
