Endsleigh Insurance: Students put off insurance due to cost

Many students do not take out contents insurance as they are afraid of how much it might cost, according to one provider.

Endsleigh Insurance spokeswoman Rhiannon Harris said that the average student brings £4,200 worth of possessions to university, which is "a lot of money to replace in one go" in the event of a burglary.

"Students are always aware of money, its something key to being a student," she noted.

"A lot of students will say they find the expense is the biggest thing that puts them off getting insurance … but you can get cover relatively cheaply."

Ms Harris also said that many students assume they are covered by their parent's content insurance, when in fact they may have only partial cover or none at all.

Her comments came after the British Insurance Brokers' Association revealed that only two in five students have adequate content insurance.
