Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans reveals garden trends

Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans has revealed that almost half (49 per cent) of people in the UK want to improve their garden with some lush greenery.

Trees, plants and shrubbery were the most popular garden improvements named in a new survey of homeowners in the UK. Patios and decking (35 per cent), patio lighting (33 per cent) and conservatories (15 per cent) were also sought-after upgrades.

The study also found that 32 per cent of people would spend more time outside if their garden was more attractive.

Richard Al-Dabbagh, Alliance & Leicester Senior Personal Loans Manager, said an increasing number of people would like to treat their garden "like an extra room", especially in the warm summer months.

"Even the smallest balcony can be turned into something attractive and stylish - everything a family needs to spend the summer months in the great outdoors," he added.

Halifax Estate Agents recently claimed that 78 per cent of people in the UK would be willing to pay more for a property that has a garden.
