Lloyds TSB: Brits unconcerned by cyber-crime

Some 51 per cent of Britons do not have concerns about internet banking fraud, new research reveals.

A quarter of the nation suggests that cyber-crime is not a worry for them because there is nothing which can be done to prevent it, according to a survey by Lloyds TSB.

Two-fifths of British people are not bothered about online crime because they think their bank will always reimburse their loss.

Ian Larkin, managing director of consumer banking at Lloyds TSB, said that the bank does all it can to prevent fraudsters from being successful.

He remarks: "Internet fraud is an issue no one can afford to ignore and it is by no means a victimless crime.

"Its impact stretches far beyond the customer whose money is taken and the bank it is taken from, with the proceeds often used to fund other more serious crime around the world."

The Federation of Small Businesses recently revealed that the risk of online credit card fraud is deterring a number of small to medium-sized firms from engaging in ecommerce.
