Abbey Mortgages predicts busy September for remortgages

Abbey Mortgages anticipates a busy September as people turn their attention from summer holidays to renewing policies.

In particular, the bank predicts that almost 90,000 people in the UK will renew their mortgages, spending an average of £516.40 on each new policy.

MOTs and various insurance renewals will also contribute to take up 23.8 million hours of the UK's time in September.

"Remortgaging might be a time-consuming process, but it's worth investing the time and effort so that you don't have to invest too much of your hard earned cash when your current mortgage deal comes to an end," said Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey.

Abbey offers free valuations and legal fees to customers looking to remortgage, while some of its products come without a booking fee.

Last week, Abbey launched two new two-year tracker mortgages and announced new rates and fees on existing offerings.
