Zurich home insurance warning to home buyers

Zurich has advised people moving home to ensure that they check and update their home insurance when they arrive in their new property.

According to a survey conducted by the home insurance provider, only 17 per cent of people take the time to inform their insurer of changes when moving out.

This comes despite the average homeowner travelling 125 miles in their lifetime as they head to new houses.

"Homeowners should be aware that a climb up the property ladder has important implications beyond just the move itself," said Steve Gilbert, home underwriting manager at Zurich Insurance.

"We would advise everyone to make sure that they protect their perfect home with adequate cover to ensure that their property dreams don't become a nightmare."

Last month, Direct Line said that people should notify their provider if they bring items such as art and jewellery into their home.
