Prudential health insurance partners with Sainsbury's

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has announced that it has allied with the private health insurer PruHealth.

The alliance means that those who have policies with PruHealth can earn "vitality points" when they buy fresh produce at Sainsbury's.

Vitality points are added up at the end of the year and then offset against the premiums the customer pays.

Shaun Matisonn, PruHealth chief executive, said: "We are delighted to have teamed up with Sainsbury's, which has such a large national footprint.

"This is the first time in the UK that a health insurer has provided a retail benefit on your everyday grocery shopping."

The alliance between the two companies shows their "commitment to improving health in the UK", added Mr Matisonn.

Currently Boots, Virgin Active and Cannons are all members of PruHealth's vitality scheme.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury's Bank has said that the use of the internet to get an insurance quote is climbing.
