Abbey savings uptake shows female trend

Women are leading the way when it comes to Abbey's Super savings offerings.

In the UK, women own more than half (52 per cent) of savings accounts, according to the GFK NOP Financial Research Survey.

But female uptake of Abbey's new Super Isa and Super Bond has been in excess of that proportion, with almost three in five (58 per cent) of new customers being women.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, Abbey's head of savings and investments, said it is "positive" that people are being encouraged to save, regardless of their sex.

"We believe that it is important that as many as possible start saving early for their future and as tax efficiently as possible," she added.

The bank also announced the launch of its 50 per cent Growth Plan product.

Last month, Abbey launched a trio of new fixed-term savings bonds with a minimum opening balance of £1.
