HSBC machines to warn overdrawn customers

The machines will have this capability from October 1st this year.
All banks allow customers to exceed the limits of their overdrafts when withdrawing money from an ATM, said the general manager of the bank's personal financial services, Joe Garner.
He commented: "More than 95 per cent of HSBC cash withdrawals are now made at ATMs and while you can already check your account balance before you make a withdrawal, few people do.
"We believe that by alerting customers at this point will enable them to make an informed choice about whether to proceed."
In 2002 HSBC introduced its fair fees policy, which allows overdraft fees to be waived in certain circumstances that the bank deems unfair.
Meanwhile, the British Bankers' Association has said that more banks are closing high street branches because in the modern era more people commute to work, which means they are not needed.
