Abbey fixed-rate mortgages lowered

Those looking to take out a mortgage with a fixed rate might be interested to hear that Abbey has lowered the rate of interest on many of its offerings.

From next Tuesday, the bank will be making reductions of up to 0.21 per cent on the interest rates of its fixed products.

One of its biggest cuts is to its two-year fixed homebuyer mortgage, on which borrowers can benefit from a fixed-rate of 6.19 per cent for a booking fee of £499.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, said: "We are committed to ensuring that Abbey's fixed-rate mortgages continue to be among the most competitive rates in the market.

"Two-year fixed-rate products are the most popular products in the Abbey range."

Earlier this month, Abbey claimed that the gap between house prices in the north and south for first-time buyers has escalated in the last ten years.
