Sainsbury's Car Insurance highlights dangerous driving

Almost seven in ten (68 per cent) drivers in the UK admit to dangerous driving habits, Sainsbury's Car Insurance has revealed.

New research by the insurer has found that 41 per cent of motorists in July divided their attention between the wheel and eating or drinking, while 34 per cent drove while tired.

Other admissions included driving in unsuitable footwear, speeding and using mobile phones while in control of the vehicle.

"It can be easy to become complacent behind the wheel of a car especially when driving regular routes but our advice is to stay alert and safe and don't allow yourself to be distracted," said Lucy Hunter, manager of Sainsbury's Car Insurance.

"Just one mistake could have terrible consequences."

Earlier this month, Sainsbury's claimed that 18.5 per cent of people intending to buy a car in the next six months will do so using a personal loan.
