Abbey fixed-term savings bonds launched

Savers looking for a short-term commitment might be interested to learn of two new products that have been launched by Abbey.

The first - the Abbey eBond - is available only online, offering a fixed AER of 6.87 per cent.

Meanwhile, the second - called simply Abbey Bond - has a fixed AER of 6.77 per cent.

Both fixed rates are available until January 1st 2008 to new and existing customers.

Commenting on the new bonds, Reza Attar-Zadeh, head of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "This is a great time for savings and we will continue to develop products which allow our customers to benefit from the current market conditions."

The announcement comes a week after Abbey launched four other savings products, among which were the 50 Plus Bond and the Children's Savings Bond.

A longer-term fixed-rate - over one, two or three years - is also provided by its Fixed Rate Bond.
