NatWest current account for teenagers

The high street bank NatWest has announced that it is offering a current account customised for teenagers.

Dubbed Natwest Adapt, the account will be available for people aged 11 to 18 and will offer a high rate of interest and bank cards which can feature a picture of the young person's choice.

Additionally, NatWest will launch a website in tandem with the card that explains in-depth how best to manage one's money.

Mark Worthington, NatWest head of youth banking, said: "The earlier young people learn about managing money the easier it is for them when they become adults.

"This is an ideal age to learn about using a PIN to buy things, what a bank statement means and checking how much money is in the account before shopping."

And with a bank card that they can put their own picture on, they can now "show their individuality", added Mr Worthington.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Public Policy Research has said that if Britons start to make sound financial judgments from when they are young then a couple with two children could save up to £32,000 by 40.
