Halifax multi-currency ATMs launched

People withdrawing cash from the ATM at Halifax's Old Broad Street branch in London are now able to do so in three different currencies.

Customers using the machine can withdraw euros and dollars in addition to pounds, making it the first of its kind in the UK, the bank claims.

More machines are set to be rolled out in London and other cities this year, offering zero per cent commission on all withdrawals.

Commenting on the move, Halifax head of travel money Nigel Turkington said: "Our customers have told us that the immediate availability of foreign currency would be a valuable addition to the wide range of services we already offer - and we plan to roll out more of these multi-currency ATMs in the near future."

This latest development in the world of ATMs follows HSBC's decision to offer overdraft advice to customers using its machines.
