Zurich: Homeworking on the rise

Greater numbers of Britons are choosing to work from home, according to research from the insurance company Zurich.

A full 30 per cent of those in full-time work spend some amount of time during the month working from home, the survey found.

And one in ten of those that work from home spend over 40 hours each month doing so. One in twenty spend over 80 hours each month working from home.

Mark Searles, Zurich's managing director, retail said: "We are going to see the popularity of homeworking rise and rise as both workers and employers seek a better work/life balance.

"However, those who have invested in their home office need to safeguard their working arrangements, should the worst happen."

It is absolutely crucial that those who work from home make sure that they have enough insurance to cover all their equipment, Mr Searles added.

Meanwhile, research from Alliance & Leicester has found that for most first-time house buyers being close to work is more important than being close to friends and family.
