Nationwide finds house price growth 'cooling'

The recent rampant growth of house prices in the UK is starting to slow down substantially, according to figures from Nationwide.

In the third quarter of this year alone growth slowed from 10.2 per cent to 9.3 per cent, the Nationwide figures showed.

Out of the 13 UK regions gauged by Nationwide, the annual rate of house price growth slumped in nine of them.

However, house price growth in London has continued to be relatively strong and the average price of a house in the capital now exceeds £300,000.

The average, the price of a house in the UK is £184,131.

Of all the regions, the north of England is that with the lowest average house price, while the West Midlands reported the slowest house price growth.

Recently the former chairman of the US Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, predicted that house prices in the UK would fall in the future.
