Confused.com issues car insurance comment

Confused.com has commented on findings by Deloitte that third-party car insurance has risen by ten per cent in the last year.

Predictions by the price comparison website have been vindicated by the Deloitte figures, which also showed that comprehensive cover has risen by four percent over the last 12 months.

The managing director of Confused.com, Debra Williams, said that the "cupboard is bare" and that more premium rises will occur over the next few months.

She stated: "These findings endorse our predictions of earlier this year that premiums would rise by ten per cent to reflect increasingly unsustainable claims ratios - the money paid out by insurers on claims, versus the money brought in from premiums.

"Reserves from more profitable years have been used by many in the industry to soak up the difference and maintain their competitiveness."

Meanwhile, Microsoft is collaborating with the voice recognition company Nuance to produce technology that will allow one to send texts while driving.
