Post Office Christmas club to be launched in 2008

A new Post Office Christmas club has been announced for 2008, which could give UK consumers a way to save up to buy gifts.

To be available at all Post Office branches from January, the scheme will require a minimum single deposit of £5 and a maximum individual payment of £500.

The money will be off-limits until November 1st, 2008, after which the club card can be used to pay for purchases with partner retailers in the scheme. Funds on the card can also be exchanged for gift vouchers.

Post Office managing director Alan Cook commented: "As one of the UK's most trusted brands with an unparalleled retail network, we are responding to the need for a safe and convenient way for people to put money aside for Christmas."

The Post Office recently launched a new life insurance policy.
