Legal & General: Life insurance ignored by Britons

Many people in Briton overlook life insurance in favour of cover for their possessions, according to new research by Legal & General.

A total of 41 per cent of people told the company that they have taken out life insurance, compared with 66 per cent who have home contents insurance.

The survey also found that 22 per cent of respondents have mobile phone insurance, while 17 per cent have critical illness cover.

Bonnie Burns, protection product marketing director at Legal & General, commented: “The nation’s priorities seem misguided, with people more worried about losing their mobile than about how they would cope financially if they had a critical illness.

"We all know that it is difficult to face up to our own mortality, but when insuring possessions is prioritised above insuring lives, then something has to be done."

Recently, Legal & General suggested that taking out adequate home insurance could help ease worry among Britons.
