The figures reveal that 53 per cent of those changing homes during the holiday season do not anticipate that their Christmas spending will be affected by the move, while ten per cent said they had planned ahead earlier in the year so as not to be left short.
Stephen Leonard, director of mortgages at Alliance & Leicester, commented: "With so many people moving into their new homes during the run-up to Christmas it can feel like a rush to get the family settled and the new furniture ordered before December 25th.
"But it is very encouraging to see many people are planning ahead to budget for their moving costs and saving in advance to ensure it doesn't have a big impact on their Christmas."
Apacs, the UK's payments association, recently predicted that British consumers would spend a total of £53 billion during the Christmas period.
