LV= finds Brits drive unclean vehicles

British motorists' attitudes to the cleanliness of their cars are verging on the dangerous, according to new research.

LV= found that more than 24 million drivers are neglecting their vehicles to the point where they could threaten their safety.

Some 11 per cent of drivers wash their car every weekend – but more than half admitted to LV= that they had never done it.

The LV= research suggests that there is an underlying problem of poor vehicle maintenance, with women (14 per cent) being slightly worse than men (11 per cent) for not doing regular checks on the basic essentials.

More than half (55 per cent) of all drivers said they did not check the cleanliness of their windscreen before embarking on a journey and 84 per cent they did not know if they had enough windscreen wash.

Some 81 per cent do not check headlights and 63 per cent did not see if their wing mirrors needed cleaning.

Recently LV= launched a new private car insurance policy that includes physical assault benefits resulting from road rage and car-jacking.
