Abbey mortgage offer

Abbey has launched a new offer for its two-year fixed-rate mortgage product.

Available for a limited eight-day period, Abbey's deal includes free legal and valuation fees for remortgaging customers.

The bank's new core two-year fixed rate mortgage is available at a 5.79 per cent rate under the offer, compared to a standard remortgaging product rate of 5.89 per cent, explained Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey.

A £675 fee is charged under the eight-day offer, while ten and 15-year fixed-rate mortgage policies are available from Abbey at a 5.79 per cent rate with a £595 fee.

The news comes as many first-time buyers (FTBs) are moving to cheaper parts of the UK just to be able to afford their first home, Abbey revealed earlier this month.

Some 25 per cent of FTBs were considering a move to a new part of the UK for affordability reasons, the bank found.
