Barclaycard mobile phone payment trial

Barclaycard is trialling a scheme in which customers can use their mobiles to make payments for purchases under £10.

As part of the trial, 500 Barclaycard customers will be given mobiles with London travel Oyster cards built in.

A total of 225 of that group will also receive £200 with which to make contactless payments using their phones.

Colin Swain, Barclaycard's head of research and development, commented: "Barclaycard has a long history of innovation and again we're at the forefront of trialling new technology which will help us play a leading role in shaping the future of payments."

"We continually investigate new ways of making our customers' lives easier and giving them choice and we are excited by the many opportunities mobile devices could bring."

Meanwhile, Barclaycard recently announced it will be launching the Breath Easy credit card and loan in 2008, which could help homeowners make their homes more eco-friendly.
