Abbey: Banking online can be fun

Online banking makes personal finance management an enjoyable experience for consumers, it has been suggested.

Abbey head of savings Reza Attar-Zadeh made the comments after research from the bank revealed that more than half (53 per cent) of online bankers log in to their account every other day.

Almost three-quarters of consumers believe they have gained a better understanding of their finances from monitoring their money online, Abbey's survey found.

Some 17 per cent of people even delay their bedtime in order to check their finances, it emerged.

With 38 per cent of consumers noting that they have saved more since banking online, Mr Attar-Zadeh said: "There is real satisfaction in watching savings grow and the internet enables us to do this with real ease."

"We are seeing evidence that people really are enjoying the online banking experience and claiming that it makes them better with managing and saving money," he added.

Research by Abbey last week revealed that almost two-thirds (64 per cent) of Britons have to make financial sacrifices prior to being paid.
