Post Office credit card warning for shoppers abroad

Those who plan on making purchases while spending the holidays abroad should be cautious when using credit cards, the Post Office has warned.

Some banks and credit card providers levy high fees on those who use their plastic in other countries, it explained.

Research from the Post Office reveals that at least 2.4 million Britons are planning to head overseas for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Post Office director of lending Gary Fitton commented: "For many people, going abroad for Christmas is a great way to relax and not have to worry about cooking Christmas dinner.

"However, with 49 per cent of UK holidaymakers planning to use their credit card when shopping abroad, many people could be returning from their Christmas break with a lot more than just memories and mementoes due to hidden card charges."

The Post Office recently announced that it will launch a Christmas savings club in January 2008.
