Sainsbury's Credit Cards reveals Brits' plastic habits

Research from Sainsbury's Credit Cards has found that Britons plan to spend £2.1 billion on their credit cards during the last week before Christmas.

This amount is 18 per cent of the total amount of £12 billion that people plan to spend in total on last-minute purchases before the holidays, according to the figures.

It is also an increase from last year, when 6.5 million people put their last-minute purchases before Christmas on to their credit cards.

According to Sainsbury's research, approximately 1.4 million people anticipate that they will spend over £1,000 during this period.

Donald MacLeod, head of Cards at Sainsbury's, commented: "Credit cards can be a safe and convenient way to do your Christmas shopping and some provide great rewards for using them."

He added that consumers should shop around and make sure they have secured the card most suited to their needs.

Research from Abbey last month found that three million Britons use their credit cards on a daily basis.
