Cheshire Building Society suggests finance health checks

Consumers are being urged to undergo a financial health check in the new year and sort out their finances ready for the months ahead.

Cheshire Building Society says that with Christmas spending out of the way January is the perfect time for people to review their finances and start 2008 on sound footing.

It is urging consumers to keep a diary of all their outgoings so they can highlight and cut back on any wasteful spending and budget better.

Homeowners should shop around for better deals on their mortgages, making sure that any savings outweigh the cost of switching, it added.

The building society also points out that January is a good month to start saving as it marks the beginning of the independent savings account season and allows consumers to start preparing early for next Christmas.

The British Bankers Association has issued similar advice, urging consumers to take advantage of some of the competitive savings offers available from banks.ADNFCR-323-ID-18409348-ADNFCR
