Direct Line insurance claim for vandalism launched

Drivers will have an additional piece of assurance in the case that they are victims of vandalism, following changes to Direct Line insurance.

The insurer has announced that it is introducing an additional benefit to cover against damages such as keying, slashed tyres and car graffiti.

Research from Direct Line insurance found that seven per cent of British car owners reported that they experienced deliberate damage to their vehicle in 2007.

Just under one-third of vandalism victims reported the incident to the police, the data indicates.

Tony Chilcott, a spokesperson for Direct Line, commented: "Unprovoked damage to your car is frustrating and distressing enough, without having the added worry of paying for the damage.

He added that the new benefit "gives customers added protection at no extra cost and at no risk to their no-claims discount".

Last month, American Express revealed that Britons were more worried about identity theft than car vandalism.
