Prudential: Insurance valued by Britons

According to new research from Prudential, insurance can be very important for Britons in times of hardship.

The majority of those polled said they would rather cancel their TV subscription and mobile phone contract than their life insurance policy or home contents cover if they were forced to choose.

In terms of which types of insurance are considered the most valuable, life insurance is at the top (35 per cent), followed by income protection (20 per cent) and critical illness cover (12 per cent).

Sammy Rubin, chief executive officer of PruProtect, said that the credit crunch may mean that people are facing tough decisions regarding their budgets and finances.

"Life insurance-related policies such as income protection can be a vital lifeline, supplying funds to cover day-to-day costs such as mortgage or debt repayments," he added.

In December, Admiral insurance encouraged people to see the new year as a way to begin a healthy lifestyle.
