Abbey: Mortgage deals could be improved

According to Abbey Mortgages, a total of £25 million is thrown away each day by those who are not taking advantage of the best home loan deal.

Each person who does not remortgage to a better offer is wasting around £5 per day, the Abbey Mortgages data reveals.

Additionally, the study discovered that 47 per cent of homeowners say they do not regularly review their mortgage deal.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, said that the amount wasted by not remortgaging "is not an insignificant amount of money".

"Abbey currently has some great rates for remortgagers, including a market-leading three-year fixed-rate product at 5.69 per cent and competitive two, five, ten and 15-year deals," she added.

Earlier this month, Abbey research concluded that 99 per cent of Britons could benefit from getting their finances in better shape in the new year.
