Mortgage market 'remains buoyant'

Despite the current credit crunch and global financial uncertainty, the mortgage market still holds promise, according to the mortgage manager for Bestinvest.

Peter O'Donovan said that "things are pretty buoyant" in the mortgage market, as many people are switching to different deals.

At the same time, he acknowledged that remortgaging may be popular but it costing borrowers more than in the past.

"There's plenty of remortgage business, which is now getting even harder because of the fees that the lenders charge," he remarked.

Mr O'Donovan stated that the average fees is currently "a thousand pounds", which is quite an increase from the charges of the past.

He concluded that "there are still plenty of people looking to buy houses" in the UK, which could support the market.

Bestinvest is an independent financial advisory company with a mortgage department.
