The average cost of damage to a home from turbulent weather has been estimated by Abbey Home Insurance as £2,699, while the firm also states that five per cent of damage happens inside - rather than outside - a property.
Lloyd Wilson, head Of Abbey Home Insurance product development, explained that damage from flooding is "becoming a yearly nightmare".
"The British weather is highly unpredictable but we can all ensure that should the worst happen we are correctly insured," he remarked.
He added that the "quality cover" offered by Abbey Home insurance could help customers cover some of the damage.
Halifax Home Insurance recently warned homeowners that there could be more flooding to come this month for certain areas of Britain.
