Graham Long states that this is demonstrated in the growth recorded in this method of payment over the last few years.
Indeed, research from the commercial bank suggests that over 1.9 million online bill payments were made via its BillPay website in 2007, which equated to a year-on-year increase of more than 70 per cent.
Mr Long comments: "Our 2007 figures highlight the growing number of Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank's business customers choosing to enable their customers to make payments online and the increasing number of consumers who are choosing online payments due to the convenience this channel provides."
In December, Lloyds TSB revealed that one in ten under-25s use the internet to seek financial advice on social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.
