Sainsbury's Home Insurance call to landlords

Landlords should make sure that they are adequately covered for their rental properties, according to Sainsbury's Home Insurance.

Steve Johnson, head of home insurance at Sainsbury's Finance, said that due to the large growth of buy-to-let investment, it has become "imperative" for landlords to ensure they have cover.

Data collected by Sainsbury's Finance reveals that approximately 2.76 million properties are owned by landlords in Britain.

Additionally, the figures indicate that the value of these properties has grown from £571.38 billion in November 2006 to £641 billion.

Sainsbury's Home Insurance offers a policy for landlords that insures against loss of rental income of up to £20,000, as well as contents cover up to £40,000.

"Our product's unlimited buildings cover means that they don't have to worry about calculating the rebuild value of their property and are safe in the knowledge that they won't be underinsured," Mr Johnson remarked.

Last month, Sainsbury's Home Insurance revealed that there had been an increase in claims due to bad weather.
