Alliance & Leicester business current account wins award

Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank has been named the best business current account provider by Business Moneyfacts magazine.

It is the sixth consecutive year that the bank has received the accolade.

It was also highly commended in the Best Overall Business Bank category and commended in the Best No Notice Business Deposit Account Provider category.

Lee Tillcock, editor of Business Moneyfacts, said that Alliance & Leicester's product had stood out in a "very competitive" small business current account market.

"The bank has performed consistently well in our surveys and best buy tables," he added.

Steve Jennings, director of business banking at Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, hoped that the award cemented the bank's position as a "credible alternative to traditional business banks".

He revealed that nearly 34,000 businesses opened a business current account with Alliance & Leicester in 2007, after its research showed that small firms are losing out on £500 million a year by remaining on uncompetitive banking deals.

A spokesperson for the British Bankers' Association recently advised consumers to create a "shopping list" of what they really want and need from their bank before deciding which account to go with, in order to ensure they get the best deal.
