Co-operative Bank reveals Brits worry about finances

Britons spend around two years of their lives worrying about debt, spending and borrowing, according to new data from Co-operative Bank.

Around half (48 per cent) of UK adults are "concerned or deeply concerned" about their financial circumstances, the survey indicated. Meanwhile, 80 per cent said they were "troubled" by such problems.

Regionally, those in the north-west were shown to be the most likely to feel financial stress, while people living in Northern Ireland were least likely.

Scott McPhail, savings product manager at the Co-operative Bank, said that "countless sleepless nights nationwide" were being taken up by worries about debt and spending.

"It's never too late to regain control of your finances," he added, suggesting that people take "full advantage" of their tax-free savings allowance before April and investing in an individual savings account.

Nationwide today called on Chancellor Alistair Darling to prioritise savings when planning the Budget.
