AXA: Saving for retirement starts early

Britons begin saving money for their retirement at an earlier age than the international average, according to new figures from AXA.

The average age for people from the UK to start planning their retirement is 28, the research reveals, while around the globe the average age is 33.

Some 71 per cent of working Britons have started putting money away for their golden years, compared with 54 per cent of international workers, the data shows.

Steve Folkard, head of pensions and savings policy at AXA, said that these numbers are "encouraging".

"However, in spite of this, there are still a worrying number of people who have still not started saving into their pension," he added.

Mr Folkard said that "well-supported employer provision" was still the "best way" to help people save for retirement.

Recently, AXA reported that wealth management was increased by seven per cent due to its individual pension business.
